About the museum

Klässbols Linneväveri was founded in 1920 by Hjalmar Johansson, who wove sheets and towels of linen on a handloom in his kitchen. After he bought his first mechanical loom in 1921, the business moved in 1924 to a soldier's croft (soldattorp) about 400 metres from the home. Hjalmar died suddenly in 1928, but the family decided to carry on, and the weaving mill is today run by the fourth generation of the Johansson family.

The mill lies by Glafsfjorden, about 20 minutes from Arvika, and has been royal warrant holder (kunglig hovleverantör) since 1970. It is still a production company: everything from warping and weaving to inspection and finished linen products is made under the same roof.

Visitors can walk around the production on their own, with a self-guided tour in Swedish and English, and see the machinery, which ranges from handlooms from the 1800s to modern weaving machines. In the factory shop, linen goods are sold at factory prices, and groups can book a guided tour of the mill's history.
