About the museum
Edsbyns museum is run by Ovanåkers hembygdsförening (Ovanåker local heritage society) and has existed since the early 1970s. The writer and photographer Hans Lidman, who lived and worked in Edsbyn and was chairman of the society for almost 30 years, took the initiative for the museum. Since 2017 the museum has been on the lower floor of Vox Cultura, a completely renovated building that also houses Edsbyn’s library and Café Gondolen.
The collections include paintings, wood carvings and photographs by the naive artist Lim-Johan, of whom ten of his 28 known paintings are on display. Another section is about Hans Lidman and his large photo archive. The museum also shows folk art with wall painting and painted furniture, Ovanåker lace and linen fabrics, a school room with benches, a teacher’s desk and an organ from over a hundred years ago, and a country store as it looked from around 1900 to the 1940s.
The objects also include Rex El-transport, an electric car from 1940–1941, display cases of toys and glass, and exhibitions on local industries, bandy, skiing and the church denominations. The museum changes its exhibitions about ten times a year.
