About the museum
The Linskäkten in Löräng lies by the Milån in Järvsö parish, in the village of Löräng near Nybo mill. The site consists of three buildings and a stone-arched bridge with an associated dam in the stream, and is a listed building (byggnadsminne). A linskäkt, or flax-dressing works, was run by water power and eased the labour-intensive processes of breaking and scutching the flax, which was of great importance in Hälsingland in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Hälsinglands Linförening (Hälsingland Flax Association) organises guided tours of the flax mill in summer. Visitors can see how the site worked and take part in an exhibition about flax and flax processing. In summer 2025 the association’s chairman guided around fifty people, and a new staircase has been built so that visitors can climb up safely.
