About the museum
Eriksbergs museum is located at Storgatan 54 in central Tranås. The building was used as a school, Eriksbergs folkskola (elementary school), from 1884 for about a hundred years. The house was reopened in 1985 as the museum that can be visited today. The museum is run by Tranås municipality, shows several permanent exhibitions and regular temporary exhibitions, and hosts events.
Tranås was for roughly a hundred years a fur town, and the fur museum tells the story of the fur industry in the municipality and how the town developed into a fashion mecca. Machines, tools and fittings from fur companies that no longer exist are shown there. Parts of the old school building are preserved as they were, and the school room is furnished with older wooden benches, a teacher's desk, teaching materials and wall charts.
In the Almquistrummet, paintings by Herman Norrman and sculptures by Ansgar Almquist are shown; both were born in Tranås and became well-known artists, and the room is sometimes used for temporary exhibitions. An exhibition shows the medals, trophies and photographs of five-time speedway world champion Ove Fundin. The Kågénrummet about Tranås local history is currently closed to visitors, and in the Kreativa Rummet visitors can make something themselves.
