About the museum

Gammelbyn Hultet lies beautifully on the shore of Lake Sommen, just north of Tranås. Here there are around twenty culturally interesting buildings, which have been moved to the site and furnished according to their period and social setting, as well as over 7,000 objects. The buildings and interiors tell of the old peasant culture of the 1700s, 1800s and early 20th century, and of the craft environments of the industrial community.

Visitors can experience lively interiors, for example the fur workshop (pälsverkstaden), the hat shop of the past, Mor Hulda's cottage (mor Huldas stuga) and the smithy, the shoemaker, the sculptor and the instrument maker. What is unique about Hultet is the historic interiors and the fact that knowledgeable guides tell their stories. Art, mainly with a connection to the Tranås area, is also richly represented.

Hultet is shown only with a guide. The guided tours are arranged in cooperation with the study association Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan, and the association Hultets vänner (Friends of Hultet) is responsible for the activities.
