About the museum
Erlandergården in Ransäter is a museum about Tage Erlander, who was Prime Minister of Sweden from 1946 to 1969. The house was a folk school and a residence: on the lower floor was the schoolroom where his father, Erik Gustaf, was a teacher, and on the upper floor the family lived during Tage's childhood. The school museum opened in 1987, and the museum in the childhood home was inaugurated a few years later.
The activities are run by Stiftelsen Erlandergården (the Erlandergården Foundation), in which, among others, Region Värmland, Munkfors Municipality, the Erlander family, Geijerskolan and Ransäter Local Heritage Society are represented. The idea is that the farm should be a living memorial to popular movements, showing how modern Sweden and its democracy developed.
Visitors can see the older building with the schoolroom and the family's home on a guided visit, and the newer building houses an exhibition on Tage Erlander's life and political work. There is also a café and a shop, and in summer events such as music are held, including the Torsdagsklubben (Thursday Club).
