About the museum

The old works (Gamla bruket) lies in Bruksparken (the works park) by the Klarälven River's highest natural waterfall and reflects a works history that begins in 1670. This is where the works owners held sway and generations of skilled iron workers made their living. The area consists of several buildings, including Lilla bruket (Little Works) and Martinverket (the Martin works).

On the site there is a Martin steelworks from 1877, which stands as it was when it closed in 1941, a unique collection of iron stamps, and a fire museum with a steam fire engine from 1884. In the museum building there is a model museum depicting the works' operations around 1890, and a chapel with fittings from the Methodist Church, which was the only church in the works community in 1890.

From the 2025 season there is the Munkfors Bruk VR experience in Lilla bruket, where visitors can use virtual reality to experience a working day at the works just over a hundred years ago. Munkfors is today one of the few places in Sweden that still lives on steel processing. The museums are run by Föreningen Gamla Bruket.
