About the museum

The house at Brunnsgatan 14 in the Annedal district was built in 1876 by Göteborgs Arbetarbostads AB (Gothenburg Workers' Housing Company). When most of Annedal was demolished in the early 1970s, the house was left standing as one of the few that remained. In 1973 the association Gamla Annedalspojkar (Old Annedal Boys) was allowed to rent the house from the municipality, even though it was still threatened with demolition.

In one of the stairwells the association set up an apartment museum, which opened in 1976. The collections were built up from items from the association's flea markets and show what workers' homes could look like in the first half of the 20th century. The house is the only one from the 19th century in Annedal that is open to the public.

Today the house is run by Föreningen Annedalspojkar och -flickor (Annedal Boys and Girls Association) as a meeting place for history, sustainability and development, a kind of urban village hall (bygdegård). The museum is open on Sundays in autumn and at special events, and groups can book visits.
