About the museum
The Krukmakerimuseet (Pottery Museum) is located in the workshop at Övre Stortorpet, which was built in the 1870s by Johan Nilsson, son of the district's first potter, Nils Nilsson. The workshop has been extended in stages over the years and has since been restored to its original condition.
The exhibition tells the story of Arvika's pottery history, from Samuel på Stortorpet to the ceramicist Ulla Nilsson – about a craft that became an industry and then an art craft. Visitors can see the people, tools, machines and the items produced from the 1870s to the present day.
In 2023 the museum was expanded with Ulla Nilsson's former shop premises, where you can learn, among other things, about the clay, the technique and why the potters chose to set up their workshops in precisely this district. The activity is supported by the association Krukmakeriets vänner (Friends of the Pottery).
