About the museum
Segerfors kvarn (mill) lies by the Viksälven river in Rackstad outside Arvika and shows what a village mill looked like at the start of the 1900s. There have been mills on the site since the Middle Ages. In 1839 Adolf Sandelin bought part of the noble freehold farm (frälsehemman) Rackstad and built up Segerfors works (bruk), where a new mill replaced the farm's old household mill. A mill from 1843 was demolished in 1852 for a new building named Segerfors, and in 1916 the mill was rebuilt on three floors with a new roller mill. It was driven by water power, later by electricity.
During the hundred years between 1850 and 1950, at least fifteen millers are known at the mill. The machinery is in good condition and includes, among other things, a betmaskin, cleaning machines, a roller stand (valsstol) and a hammer mill. The environment along the river has several small rapids and waterfalls.
Rackstad's non-profit mill association was founded in 1989, and through the association the mill could be restored with support from Arvika municipality. The association looks after the mill and the area, keeps it accessible to the public and organises activities such as storytelling evenings, river walks and the annual Kvarndagarna (Mill Days) in July, with exhibitors, music and café. A mill path (kvarnstig) runs along the river.
