About the museum
Nytomta is one of the oldest farms in Taserud in Arvika. Here lived the ornamental sculptor Ola Eriksson, one of the four brothers who in 1891 took over Bröderna Erikssons möbelsnickeri (Brothers Eriksson furniture workshop), together with his wife Christina and their children. The family built the house in 1896–97, and the farm became a meeting place for artists, craft artists and architects.
Ola's daughter Hanna Eriksson trained as an art weaver and lived on the farm for most of her life. Thanks to her, Nytomta has been preserved in almost original condition, with a jugend (Art Nouveau) interior in which her textiles interact with the colour scheme and decoration of the artist Maja Fjæstad, untouched for over a hundred years.
The farm is today owned by a foundation formed by Hanna's sister Malin Eriksson and her daughter Böret Palm. The foundation's task is to preserve Nytomta and carry on the tradition of craft in weaving and wood. In summer visitors can see the exhibitions in the house, the weaving room, the storehouse, the little cottage and Elis-E-palatset (the Elis-E Palace), and the farm has a weaving residency for textile artists.
