About the museum

Ekeby hembygds- och fornminnesförening (Ekeby Local Heritage and Antiquities Society) was formed in 1930, and in its very first year of activity it bought the crofter's cottage Boden with outbuildings on the farm of Dalas ägor (estate). The owner, Count Karl Philip Klingspoor of Grönlund in Åsbo, in 1933 allowed the society to use the plot free of charge for 50 years, and the local heritage farm Boden was thus established. It lies about one kilometre east of Ekeby church.

The farm today has nine buildings. The crofter's cottage Boden is the original, and the croft's cowshed has been fitted out as a kitchen. The loft storehouse from Kulla farm, an 18th-century house, was erected at Boden in 1934, and Östra Hagtorpsstugan, a crofter's cottage under Ekeby vicarage (prästgård), was moved there in 1956. The farm smithy came from Västra Herkhult the same year.

The storehouse was built in 1980 as a museum building for carriages, agricultural implements and other large objects, of timber from the demolished Ekeby school, and was extended by 1998 to house an ox-walk (oxvandring). In addition there is a provisions store, a ball and dart-throwing booth, a market stall and, since 2007, an information apiary run together with Boxholm Beekeepers' Association (Boxholms biodlarförening). The highlight of the year is the midsummer celebration, which attracts hundreds of visitors.
