About the museum

Åsbo hembygdsgård grew up around the old Hybbeln croft, which has stood on its original site. The croft belonged to Grönlund manor and in the 1640s was a rusthåll croft, one that supported a mounted soldier. Its last residents, the estate bailiff Jonas Petter Eriksson and his wife Carolina, died in 1927. The estate owner Carl Philip Klingspor then gave the croft to the newly formed Åsbo Local History and Antiquities Association, founded in the summer of 1929 on the initiative of the church caretaker Herman Fredriksson.

Over time more buildings were added: the Dungarp cottage was moved here in 1953, the coffee cottage in 1954, the back cottage Fällan in 1956 and a cart shed from Bämmelsbo in 1973. The Atterbom House, built in 1999 from old timber, contains a meeting hall and a fireproof archive with literature about the poet Atterbom, parts of his personal belongings, the old parish library and the association’s documentation.

In the wing of the croft there is a school museum and a coffee kitchen, and in the cottage the large built-in stove with its baking oven is visible. The association has about 160 members and holds, among other events, a gökotta (dawn gathering) at Hybbeln on Ascension Day. From November to April the farm rests over winter.
