About the museum
Indals hembygdsförening (local heritage society) celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2016, and in 1936 the homestead museum on Hallstaberget was opened. Today's homestead museum is called Skällstagården and was built in the 1850s. In 1967 the society bought the farm and 7,000 square metres of land from SCA for SEK 100.
Renovation of the main farmhouse began in 1973. Two rooms and the kitchen were ready in 1976, and Walpurgis Night (Valborgsmässoafton) was celebrated here for the first time. During the 1980s the roof was repaired and the toilets were moved indoors, and in 1994 coffee could for the first time be served in the cowshed. During the 1990s a new porch was built and the tiled stoves were completed.
The site also includes the bakery cottage and Idas bod, an old-fashioned general store with fittings from Ida Nordin's shop. The society sometimes shows mini exhibitions from its collection, for example an exhibition of kapp (traditional headdresses), and the homestead museum is active all year round.
