About the museum
Kornettgården began as a private collection. In 1967 Birgitta and Lars-Erik built a villa by Flistad church, and the collection began with three old objects on a bare wall in the gille hut (gillestugan): a besman (an old tool), a set square (vinkelhake) and an oxhyvel (an old wooden plane). First they collected measures, paints and weights, and then the interest grew to all sorts of odd and amusing things. Many objects came from auctions, antique shops and village shops that closed down.
From the start the idea was not to show the collection, but requests for viewing and refreshments came more and more often. In 1988 the family converted an old building that had previously been a stable and storehouse into a viewing room and café, and the activity found its place at Kulla Kornettgården outside Vreta kloster.
Today Kornettgården is a nostalgia museum with built-up settings in several rooms, including a village shop and a radio shop, where the objects mainly date from the late 19th century to the 1950s and 1960s. The museum has a café with home baking and a jukebox, and during the year events are held such as a Christmas market, summer theatre and a veteran vehicle meeting.
