About the museum

Lerbäck local heritage association has its origins in a committee appointed at a municipal council meeting in 1921 to create an ancient cottage (fornstuga) where old objects from the district could be kept. The association was first called Lerbäcks fornminnesförening (Lerbäck Antiquities Association) and took its present name in 1929, the same year that Skyllbergs bruk (Skyllberg ironworks) donated a plot by the coaching inn in Lerbäck.

Over the years several buildings have been gathered on the farm: the Sockenmagasinet (parish storehouse) from 1830, which was moved back closer to the church in 1987; the Loftboden (loft storehouse); the Nubbsmedjan (smithy); a log building from Dovra; a main building in Bergslag style from Klysna, built in 1843; a tool shed; three railway carriages from the narrow-gauge Askersund–Skyllberg–Lerbäck railway; and an outdoor privy from Lugnet school. The Fallastugan was originally a dwelling house in Falla that Ruben Carlsson built up and furnished as a farm museum before giving it to the association in 1990.

The farm lies in Lerbäck’s parish center, where the church, coaching inn, municipal hall, parish room and local heritage farm form one of the few surviving unified parish centers in the country. The association arranges, among other things, National Day celebrations, a folk music gathering (spelmansstämma) and an experience day with an open smithy and stories about the railway.
