About the museum
Askersunds hembygdsgård opened in 1933 and was built up by Norra Vätterns hembygdsförening (the local heritage society) with older buildings moved here from Askersund and the surrounding districts. Among the houses are Klockargården, the Soldatstugan from Rude, a toll house from the 1780s, Loftboden from Olshammar, the sheep house from Ängens gård, Önalogen from Öna, Snutastugan and Redskapsboden from Markebäck, and Bocksjöboden and the sauna from Tiveden. From the town come Lusthuset, Logen and Stadspumpen.
The hall, which is used as an exhibition space, is the homestead museum's own new building from 1993. The site lies next to the town with a view over Lake Alsen and borders the nature reserve Stadsparken.
In summer the cottages are open to visitors, and between the houses there is a mini zoo with sheep, goats, hens, ducks and rabbits, among other animals. Events are held throughout the year at the outdoor stages, including the Bertil Boo stage.
