About the museum
Hälleviksstrands museum is run by Morlanda local heritage society, which was formed in 1949 and is the oldest local heritage society on Orust. The society wants to preserve and tell about Morlanda’s cultural monuments and historic environments, among other things by keeping the museum buildings open to the public.
The museum is in the middle of Hälleviksstrand and consists of a fisherman’s cottage and a boathouse from the 1800s. In the fisherman’s cottage lived Simon and Maria together with their daughter Augusta, and the rooms show everyday and holiday life in a fishing family on western Orust in the 1800s and 1900s. The parlour and the attic are full of objects, and in the boathouse life by the sea is told.
Among the society’s visitor attractions is also a skvaltkvarn (water mill) from the 1700s in Bro, where there were no fewer than seven mills along the stream ravine. The society also looks after the stone-arch bridge Osebron from 1889, the largest and best-preserved on Orust. Each year the museum holds Jul på museet (Christmas at the Museum), with mulled wine, gingerbread and sales of the Morlandakalendern.
