About the museum
Movikens masugn (blast furnace) was built at Norra Dellen in Bjuråker and went into operation in 1797. It complemented the furnace in the neighbouring village of Österbo, and both belonged to Strömbacka bruk (ironworks), where pig iron was refined into bar iron. The furnace had its best period between 1827 and 1856 and was rebuilt in the 1860s.
In 1903 it was replaced by a completely new blast furnace, and operations ceased in 1937. The site has since been restored and today gives a good insight into how pig iron was made. Visitors can use an audio guide and watch films.
The furnace is part of Hudiksvalls bruksminnen (the ironworks heritage of Hudiksvall), which together with Iggesunds järnverk (Iggesund ironworks) and Strömbacka stångjärnssmedja (Strömbacka bar iron forge) tells the story of the region’s ironworks industry.
