About the museum
Naturum Fjärås Bräcka is the visitor centre for the Fjärås Bräcka nature reserve, an ice-marginal formation (israndbildning) that stretches between the sea and the lake Lygnern. Fjärås Bräcka is the only place in Sweden where you can see both sea and lake at the same time. In the nature reserve there are hiking trails, a bathing spot, viewpoints and barbecue areas, and close to naturum lies Halland's largest Viking Age burial ground, with more than a hundred standing stones.
The building's architecture and location were chosen with great care, and the walls are built of fjäråsgnejs (Fjärås gneiss), a stone that was previously quarried on the north side of Lygnern. Naturum is run by Kungsbacka Municipality in cooperation with the County Administrative Board of Halland.
In the exhibition the visitor goes through the Ice Age and follows how Fjärås Bräcka was formed, how the landscape was filled with plants and animals, and how people have left traces in the cultural landscape. Nature trails start outside the house, and staff arrange activities for children and adults at weekends and during the summer season.
