About the museum
Nordhallands Hembygdsmuseum is jointly owned and run by the thirteen local heritage guilds (hembygdsgillen) of Nordhalland, which cover Kungsbacka Municipality and Lindome parish. The museum and the association's office are located at Korsgatan 17 in Kungsbacka and are run entirely on a voluntary basis. After a period when the museum was closed, it opened at the present address in spring 2022.
In the entrance there is a shop and an office, and in an exhibition hall temporary exhibitions are shown, changed several times a year. Among the permanent settings are a textile room, a schoolroom with fittings from different periods of the 20th century, Apoteket Kronan (the Kronan Pharmacy) with old pharmacy objects, models of older environments and farms in Kungsbacka and the surrounding area, and a shop with old fittings.
The museum also shows a joinery workshop and a smithy, since northern Halland, especially Lindome, Älvsåker and Tölö, had many joiners and smiths. In addition there is a home interior from a crofter's cottage (torp) from the 1930s and Röda Lyktans hattaffär (the Red Lantern hat shop). The association's library has local history literature, newspapers published in Kungsbacka since around 1900, maps, photo and personal archives and a researchers' corner for genealogy.
