About the museum
Nors hembygdsgård (homestead museum) lies in Nors pastures by Trossnäs, right next to the former military training ground Trossnäs fält (Trossnäs field). The main building dates from the early 1700s and contains a storstuga (large parlour) with coffee service on the ground floor, where visitors can also see the farm's other rooms. Nors hembygdsförening (local heritage society) has around 210 members and uses the homestead museum as the centre for its meetings and activities.
In the attic there are two museums. Trossnäsmuseet tells of Trossnäs field, where Värmlands regemente (Värmland Regiment) and Värmlands fältjägare (Värmland Field Rangers) trained annually between 1832 and 1913, and of how the field was used as a military training ground in other forms until 2004. Fornmuseet depicts the development of the district from the retreat of the inland ice, through the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, up to the early Middle Ages, with short scenes in text, sound and image.
In the garden there is a herb garden, and below it lies the Norsälven river with a floating jetty. The society organises, among other things, a summer café, the Field Rangers' Day (fältjägarnas dag), harvest festivals, art and craft exhibitions and wreath-making. The society also runs Svenska Rayon Museum in Älvenäs.
