About the museum

Norsjö skidlöparmuseum opened in March 1989 and is on the Norsjö local heritage area. The Norsjö district has produced many successful skiers: Olympic and World Championship medallists, about fifteen Swedish champions and three Vasaloppet winners. Among the long-distance skiers are Ernst Alm, the first Vasaloppet winner; Oskar Lindberg, the second; the long-distance skier Mauritz Brännström, known as Norsjöbjörnen (the Norsjö bear); and the Olympian Martin Lundström, known as Guld-Martin (Gold Martin).

The museum shows how skiing developed in the district, from a background in forestry work via village and national competitions to national team assignments. The exhibitions cover the skiers' upbringing, training conditions and equipment, as well as the making of skis and wax. Visitors can listen to classic radio commentaries by Sven Jerring, smell homemade ski wax in the wax hut (vallabod), and see trophy collections and the white national team outfit.

Upstairs is Minnenas café with film screenings, including about the competition arena Rännaren and about Guld-Martin. In the room beyond, the three victory medals from Vasaloppet and Guld-Martin's two Olympic gold medals are displayed.
