About the museum
Glommersträsks hembygdsmuseum, also known as Hängengården, lies in the middle of the village of Glommersträsk in Arvidsjaur Municipality. The farm is one of the first to be established in the village and shows what a prosperous farming home in southern Norrbotten could look like in the early 19th century. The main building was timbered from 1775 at Käcks gård and completed on its present site in 1810.
In 1843 the Swedish Missionary Society started a school on the upper floor, and the authentic schoolroom is the museum’s greatest rarity. There are also wall paintings by Anna-Greta Jonsdotter there. The four original buildings – the main building, the bakehouse, the loft store and the grain store – are listed buildings. The other buildings have been moved here since the farm became a local heritage farm in 1937, among them Käckboden from 1759, the village’s oldest building, and a Sámi storehouse on posts (stolpbod) from around 1790.
The local heritage association was formed in 1937 and acquired Hängengården the same year. The site has twelve buildings with almost 3,000 objects from the early colonisation of Lappmarken. Every year National Day on 6 June is celebrated with Fru Käcks Café and a large cake buffet, and the association arranges a local heritage day each year.
