About the museum
Rosenlöfs tryckerimuseum (Rosenlöf Printing Museum) is a preserved letterpress printing works in Kungsgården that was closed down on 5 July 1974. The employees then took their bags, switched off the light, locked up and went home, and since then all the machines and equipment have stood in the same condition. The museum is described as unique of its kind, and visitors get the feeling that the printers have only just left and will return the next day.
In the museum you can follow the entire production chain. In the typesetting room all text was set by hand with loose type, and the printing room has cylinder and platen presses, among them the platen press Pärlan from 1890, which is operated with a pedal and is still in use. In the bookbindery there is, among other things, a gilding press, cutting machines and marbling trays, and in the office you see the time before computers, with order shelves, typewriters and letter spikes. The cutting machine Seyboldus, bought in 1918, is the only one of its type remaining in Sweden.
The non-profit association Rosenlöfs Vänner (Friends of Rosenlöf) works to keep the museum a living museum and arranges, among other things, national day celebrations, Typernas dag (Day of the Type) in September and other activities during the autumn. In the shop visitors can order letterpress-printed stationery, cards and business cards and buy pre-printed products.
