About the museum
Rydö bruksmuseum is in the centre of the Rydöbruk ironworks village, in the former infirmary where the works once ran its nursing clinic. Rydöbruk is considered Halland's oldest bruk (ironworks village). In 1742 an ironworks was founded at Knystaforsen in the Nissa, where the national border between Sweden and Denmark once ran, with wire-drawing and water-powered hammer works. Later a mill, a tannery, a sawmill and a hand-paper mill were added, among others.
The present community took shape after 1897, when a sulphite pulp and paper mill was built that came to employ around 300 people. The works environments are still relatively well preserved.
The museum is run by Rydö Historical Society and shows the development of the community and the industry over 250 years. The collections include a picture archive of around 20,000 photographs. The permanent exhibition “Hallands äldsta bruksort” has been in the museum since summer 2025, and the society arranges guided tours of the Rydö works environments for groups.
