About the museum
Lugnet is one of Drängsered's oldest crofts. As early as 1696 a dwelling on the site is mentioned as Drängsereds Huus, and according to the parish registers many elderly people lived there, so it was probably a poor-house cottage (fattigstuga). The Hallands landsbeskrivning (Halland county description) from 1729 mentions the croft as a small cottage (backstuga) by Skogsgård. The old cottage was demolished in the early 1900s and replaced by a loft cottage in 19th-century style.
From 1864 the croft was worked by Karl Ekeroth, the son of the parish clerk (klockare), who was also the organ bellows operator and the church stoker. After his death his daughter Maria Ekeroth took over the croft and became the last crofter listed in the tax rolls (mantalsskriven) in the parish. She lived in the cottage until her death in 1954.
The croft is owned by Drängsered parish and has been leased to Drängsered Local Heritage Society since 1955. The society has renovated the cottage and looks after the roughly two tunnland of infield meadow as a leaf-hay meadow (löväng), managed by mowing and gathering of twigs (rishämtning). Lugnet is used as a homestead museum for the society's meetings and events.
