About the museum
S/S Gerda was built in 1865 at the Lindholmen shipyard in Gothenburg and delivered to Stockholms Ångslups AB, where steam launches were an important form of public transport. In 1894 she was sold to Haneberg in Södermanland to sail on Näshultasjön, and was then renamed Haneberg. The steam engine was replaced by a hot-bulb engine around 1915–1920, and in 1932 she was taken out of service and lay ashore until 1996.
Eskilstuna Municipality bought the vessel in 1978. After a renovation that began in 1993 she was returned to service in 1996. The hull is still fully riveted, which is unusual, and a single-cylinder steam engine from around 1900 has been installed. The boiler is fired with wood.
Gerda is 13.55 metres long, approved for 40 passengers, and sails on Näshultasjön and the Eskilstunaån (Eskilstuna river) during the summer. Operations are run by Föreningen Ångslupen Gerda (Gerda Steam Launch Association), and the vessel can also be chartered.
