About the museum

Sankt Anna skärgårdsmuseum (Sankt Anna Archipelago Museum) is located at Tyrislöt on Norra Finnö in the Sankt Anna archipelago and is East Götaland’s first archipelago museum. It is run by Sankt Anna hembygdsförening (Sankt Anna Local Heritage Society), which from the start of its formation aimed to create a local museum. The goal was realised after about ten years of activity, and the museum was inaugurated on 18 June 2000.

In late 1997 Söderköping Municipality and the heritage society signed an agreement on a museum room at Tyrislöt. The association was responsible for the conversion and maintenance, and the municipality for the premises themselves. Construction began in January 1999, and members with craft skills worked voluntarily, for a total of about 5,000 hours.

The museum portrays the living conditions of archipelago people in the past and also gives an impression of today’s opportunities to live and work in the archipelago. The main theme is fishing, with work boats such as the roddsump, the segelöka and the notöka, as well as different fishing methods. In addition, seabird hunting, the simple tools of archipelago farming, a food store and a kitchen are shown. Later a threshing house with a horse-driven threshing gear and a restored hot-bulb engine were added, and on Tornberget behind the museum a number of work boats are on display.
