About the museum
The Kanalmuseet i Sjötorp (Sjötorp Canal Museum) is housed in an old red shipyard warehouse by the upper harbor basin in central Sjötorp, about 50 meters from the locks. The museum tells the story of the Göta Canal and of shipping on the canal, lake Vänern and lake Vättern.
The museum occupies the second and third floors of the building, while Café Baltzar is on the ground floor. The exhibition shows, among other things, tools used when the canal was dug more than 200 years ago, old boats, drawings and letters. From the museum you can see passenger boats passing through the locks.
The house lies on Sjötorp’s old shipyard area, and Café Baltzar acts as an information point and welcomes visitors.
