About the museum
The forestry museum was founded in the 1980s by Helge Samuelsson and Sven-Olof Larsson, two teachers at the Sparresäter forestry school. The intention was and is to show the development of forestry from the horse era up to today. The collections were first kept at the Sparresäter forestry school, but when the farm was sold, they had to move.
Norra Billings hembygdsförening (local heritage society) took over the museum from the school, and during 2018 the collections were moved to a storehouse building on the Remningstorp estate. The location suits well given the connection of the Skogssällskapet (Swedish Forestry Society) to the farm. The building is not heated, so visits are preferably made in April, May, August and September.
The collection includes many chainsaws from the 1940s onwards, all carefully marked with names and years. There are also cone-picking poles (kottstegar), bark spades, log-hauling tools (stocksvansar), carts and sledges for hauling timber with horses, and tools for planting, soil preparation, farriery and a farm smithy.
