About the museum
At Storforsen in Älvsbyn Municipality there is a forestry and log-floating museum that shows the everyday life and working methods of forest workers and log-floaters in the past. Inside the nature reserve stand about twenty buildings and installations that show how log-floating and forest work were carried out in Norrbotten, including tools, huts, a charcoal stack, a tar kiln and stables.
Timber was floated down the river until the 1980s, and structures in the river from the log-floating era are still visible. The log-floating museum belongs to the forestry museum. The building is locked, and the exhibition is shown only on guided tours. Norrbottens museum (Norrbotten Museum) is responsible for the log-floating museum.
