About the museum
The Grenadjärtorpet Ekelid (Ekelid Grenadier's Croft) in Oppeby in Kinda Municipality dates back to the 1600s. The croft was home to a soldier of the indelningsverket (the Swedish allotment system for soldiers), and today it is a homestead museum (hembygdsgård) with a collection of old objects from the district.
The homestead, in addition to the croft, has a cattle barn, a storehouse (bod) and a smithy, and the view from the rise behind the museum is very fine. Oppeby Local Heritage Society has as its main task to care for and maintain the croft with all its buildings and collections, and the society arranges, among other things, a local heritage festival (hembygdsfest) in the summer.
