About the museum
Stuckatörens våning is located in the building at David Bagares gata 10 in Norrmalm, which was built in 1884 by Axel Notini, one of the leading stuccoists in Stockholm in the late 19th century. The building is richly decorated with stucco both outside and inside, and here Notini received prospective clients to show them what he could do.
The 174-square-metre flat has six rooms and a kitchen. It has been restored to its original condition and furnished as an example of a middle-class home, with, among other things, a salon, dining room, gentleman's room with library, bedroom, nursery and maid's room. The standard reflects the period: tiled stoves, a kitchen with a wood-burning range and a large cold pantry, cold running water and a dry toilet (torrdass).
The floor plan is so-called continental, a model that became modern in the homes of the upper middle class in the 1890s. The fine rooms faced the street, while the bedrooms and kitchen faced the quieter courtyard. The flat became a museum residence in 1998 and is run by Stadsmuseet i Stockholm (the Stockholm City Museum).
