About the museum
Sveriges museum om Förintelsen is a state museum under the authority Statens historiska museer. In March 2021 the government commissioned the authority to investigate how a Holocaust museum could be set up, and in September 2021 it was commissioned to establish the museum. The museum was founded in 2022 and opened its first exhibition in June 2023 at Torsgatan 19 in Stockholm.
The museum’s task is to preserve the memory of the Holocaust, deepen knowledge of the road to the Nazi German genocide and illuminate the historical context both in Sweden and internationally. The fates of the victims are a recurring theme, as is the question of how the Holocaust still affects society.
The city has offered a site on Blasieholmen in central Stockholm as a future permanent home, and the museum is working to be able to move there. For the time being, exhibitions, a selection from the collections in the museum’s lounge and a range of tours and programmes are presented on Torsgatan.
