About the museum
Tobo bruksmuseum shows parts of Tobo's industrial history from the 1600s to the late 1900s in the old Folkets hus (People's House) in Tobo. Tobo is today the only Uppland works where the original character of the 1600s, with irregular works streets and an asymmetrical layout, can still be experienced.
The exhibition deals, among other things, with the ironworks era, model farming (mönsterjordbruket) and the Monark era. At the end of the 1600s the works was one of Uppland's more significant, with extensive pig iron production, and during the 1800s it supplied all the pig iron needs of Lövstas fideikommiss (entailed estate). The bicycle factory Monark established itself in Tobo in 1937 and manufactured, among other things, skis and radio and television sets.
