About the museum

Ullfors bruk (ironworks) by the Tämnarån river is a uniform and well-preserved works environment from the mid-1600s. The works was founded in 1647 by the German industrialist Hinrich Lemmens and was a bar-iron works with Walloon forging for nearly 300 years, until it closed in 1929. An 80-metre dam provided power for the hammer forge, blast furnace, mill and water-powered saw. Alongside the iron, the works grew with a sawmill, a brickworks and large farms with dairies.

Only the 3.6-tonne mumblingshammare (mumbling hammer) remains of the hammer forge; it stands by Brandboden as a monument to the industrial era. Along Bruksgatan lie red and white smithy cottages from the 1700s, and many of the buildings are furnished in period style.

Visitors can see a smithy cottage furnished in period style from around 1900, a small white stone house that was formerly an archive and today is a museum with smiths' tools, and the carpentry workshop, which has stood intact since it closed in the 1940s. In Mumblingsgården, the old inn from the 1700s, there is a photo exhibition and information about the works.
