About the museum
Vännäs motormuseum is run by a non-profit association with around thirty members. The association was started in 1986 by some fifteen enthusiasts with a fondness for vintage vehicles, who wanted to show their collections together. The ambition is to preserve old engine and vehicle history and to offer a museum where the whole family finds something to recognise.
The museum is housed in a hangar from 1927 at Vännäs läger (camp). An airfield had been there since the early 1920s, and the hangar was used by the Swedish Air Force (flygvapnet) until after the Second World War. After several years of restoration work the association was able to move in and held its first exhibition in 1993. In Vännäs the railway has been the heart of the community for over a hundred years, and interest in technology has always been strong.
The exhibition shows bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, cars, tractors, aircraft, and boat and railway history in various built-up settings with dolls. Most of it is connected with the area around Vännäs, but there are also unusual and exclusive objects, and the collection changes all the time as new objects are added.
