About the museum
The exhibition about the Tallberg bridges is in the Byahuset in Nyåker, about four kilometres from the three bridges over Öreälven near the village of Tallberg. The bridges were built for the Northern Main Line (norra stambanan) and opened to traffic in 1891, 1919 and 1994. The oldest is a steel bridge with a span of 180 metres, used as a road bridge since 1938, and the bridge from 1919 was, when it was built, the largest standard-gauge stone bridge in the world.
In the exhibition, visitors can explore the technical, cultural and historical values of bridge building. It shows photographs by Sune Jonsson of, among other things, train passengers and railway work, a bench from a railway carriage from around 1900, literature on bridge building and the Nyåker region, and a model of Nyåker railway station built by the artist Anders Åberg. High up in the ceiling hangs the tomcat Sune-Belle from Sune Jonsson's novel Brobyggarna.
The exhibition is run by Nyåkersbygdens Intresseförening, which, together with Olofsfors Bruksmuseum and Vägverket (the Swedish Road Administration), has also laid out a walking trail with signs at the bridges. Next to the exhibition there is a summer café, and for children there is a table with rails, trains, bridges and stations.
