About the museum
VIDA Museum & Konsthall opened on 24 June 2001 with an exhibition hall for gallery activities and two wings, one dedicated to the art of Ulrica Hydman-Vallien and one to that of Bertil Vallien. There the most important works from the early 1960s to the most recent are shown, in glass, ceramics, sculpture and painting. The building lies by road 136, nine kilometres south of Borgholm, and large windows face Kalmarsund.
In 2003 a further exhibition hall, Norra hallen, was built, and in 2005 a hall for Ulf Trotzig's painting was inaugurated. It was shown there for ten years and then replaced by mixed exhibitions. Today there are two permanent museum halls, three larger and one smaller exhibition hall, a children's corner, a shop and a café, totalling 2,000 square metres.
VIDA describes itself as one of Sweden's largest privately owned art centres. Since January 2016 it has been owned and run by Hampus and Emilia Vallien; Hampus is the son of Bertil Vallien and Ulrica Hydman Vallien. Concerts, conferences, events and weddings are also held during the year.
