About the museum
Yttra Berg lies in Falkenberg Municipality and is a nature reserve with an old-fashioned cultivated landscape, where pollarded trees, hay meadows, cultivation terraces and cattle drove-roads (fägator) have been preserved. The farming landscape is largely intact from the time before the enclosure reforms of the 19th century, and with a map from 1830 it is still possible to orient oneself in detail. The reserve was protected in 1993 and is owned by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket), while the County Administrative Board manages it.
The farmstead is the heart of the reserve. There are two farms: Bröderna Johanssons gård (the Johansson Brothers' Farm) and Aronsgården (Aron's Farm), which is the oldest, with roots in the 17th century and a dwelling house from 1818. The unpainted cowshed Sjöredsladan was moved here from Sjöred in Falkenberg in 1992.
In Sjöredsladan there is a small museum with an exhibition on the history of the landscape, the animal and plant life of the reserve and the tasks of old-fashioned farming. A listening studio tells of the district, and the museum has a place for eating packed food. Gällareds hembygdsförening (Gällared Local Heritage Society) manages Store stockäng (the great hay meadow) in the traditional way, with an annual hay-mowing guild (slåttergille) at the turn of July and August.
