About the museum
The museum is located in the Pensiun Aldier on the village square of Sent. The building has operated as a hotel since 1865; it was initially called Rhaetia and later Rezia. Since 2012 it has belonged to the Gross family, who had it thoroughly renovated. The current name is made up of the first syllables of the first names of the artists to whom the hotel is dedicated: Alberto and Diego Giacometti and Ernst Scheidegger.
In the vaulted cellar, the museum displays the public collection that hotelier Carlos Gross assembled over more than 25 years. It comprises almost the complete printed graphic work of the Bregaglia-born artist Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966), with lithographs and etchings, including rare trial proofs without an edition. In addition, there are nearly all of the artists’ books Giacometti contributed to, two original lithographic stones and the model of a plaster bowl. A book about the collection was published by Scheidegger & Spiess in 2016; since 2017 the collection has been expanded with further works and the artists’ books.
The hotel also displays bronzes and a tapestry by Diego Giacometti, Alberto Giacometti’s brother and most important collaborator. A collection of signed black-and-white photographs by Ernst Scheidegger, the photographer and friend of the artist, is partly accessible in the public areas of the building.
