About the museum
In the summer of 2011, the former Restaurant Bahnhof in Diessenhofen became the “Haus zur Gewesenen Zeit”. The initiator, Monika Stahel, moved into the house with her large collection of everyday objects, clothing and accessories from the past century. Her aim is that the house should not be perceived as a classic museum: the objects are meant to continue to be used and brought to life. Since then the house has established itself as a fixed presence in the cultural life of the region.
The collection includes women’s and men’s clothing and accessories from 1900 to 1970, as well as magazines such as the Schweizer Illustrierte from 1914 onward, knitting pattern booklets from Schaffhauser Wolle, youth and school books in the library, and more than a hundred jazz shellac records that can be played. Changing installations are created in the cellar; on the second floor is the costume rental for theater, film and commissioned productions. The house also includes a carriage shed, an attic and a garden with secluded spots.
Concerts, readings, fashion shows, film evenings and puppet theater take place again and again; the Beizli (small bar) is also used for private events. The association Verein Unterstützung “Gewesene Zeiten”, founded in September 2010, makes the cultural project possible. On the monthly opening days there are guided tours, coffee and cake.
