About the museum

The parish church of St. George in Ernen was built under Bishop Matthäus Schiner von Mühlebach by the master builder Ulrich Ruffener. Its magnificent baroque high altar dates from 1758 to 1761.

The church museum has been located since 1999 in the crypt beneath the high altar. On display are numerous skillfully made baroque vestments, including the Schiner vestment from around 1500, as well as the Schiner chalice, goldsmith's works and a range of objects relating to the history of the parish.
