About the museum
The museum arose from the wish of parish priest Don Giovanni Bonomo to give his mineral collection to the community of Premia. It opened on 3 August 2002 in the old building that housed the town hall and primary school, one of the village's oldest stone buildings, overlooking the main square.
The collection numbers 3,333 specimens catalogued by name and locality, coming almost entirely from the Ossola valleys and in particular the Antigorio and Formazza valleys, grouped by paragenesis. The main cases are in the room beside the entrance and follow a geographical route, while the most valuable pieces from private collections are displayed in the basement. Alongside the minerals, four pieces of Premia ceramics are also shown.
Among the specimens are rare species such as cervandonite, gasparite and chernovite. Guided visits are available and can be combined with a visit to the nearby Gole dell'Uriezzo.
