About the museum
The museum grew out of a project launched in 1993 by the Centro Studi Piero Ginocchi of Crodo and opened in 2006. It is devoted to the journey of mineral water from spring to bottle, and to the industrial history that followed.
The display follows chronological and thematic criteria and brings together documents, technologies and scientific and artistic testimonies. Five complete historic bottling plants are on show, along with more than 15,000 full bottles and over 80,000 labels. The oldest document is an edict of the Grand Duke of Tuscany of 1 July 1583 on the waters of Montecatini.
A mineralogy section presents, in wall cases, the most significant specimens of the mineral species of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola basin, organised by finding locality (Alpe Veglia, Alpe Devero, Valle Formazza, Valle Antigorio, Val Vigezzo, Valle Antrona, Baveno). Rare minerals include gasparite, roggianite and paraniite, recognised as a new species on Monte Cervandone in 1995.
