About the museum
The Kunstsammlung Rutishauser belongs to the Rutishauser Kunst- und Kulturfonds, a sub-foundation of the non-profit umbrella foundation ACCENTUS. The collections go back to the decades-long collecting activity of the founders Hans E. Rutishauser and his son Marcel Rutishauser; the first objects had already been acquired by Hans E. Rutishauser’s father and grandfather. Since then they have been systematically expanded, with gaps filled through targeted individual acquisitions.
The purpose of the fund is to preserve the collections in the long term, make them accessible to interested circles, maintain and expand them, and enable their scholarly study. The focus is on the Lake Constance region, spanning from the earliest times to the modern era.
The holdings include printed views, panoramas, maps and picture postcards, manuscripts and books, oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and sculptures, furniture and stained glass, pewter tableware and household objects, as well as coins and medals. The foundation is a member of the Verband der Museen der Schweiz. Viewings and guided tours are possible by appointment for groups, schools and interested individuals; many objects are also lent to other museums for special exhibitions.
