About the museum

The Regional Agricultural Museum is located in the hamlet of Ruggisberg, part of the municipality of Häggenschwil above Lömmenschwil. It opened in 2005 and was built up jointly by several municipalities in the region. Today ten municipalities support the museum, including Berg, Egnach, Gaiserwald, Häggenschwil, Muolen, Roggwil, Steinach, Tübach, Waldkirch and Wittenbach. The museum relies heavily on volunteers; in 2025 it celebrated its twentieth anniversary.

The collection is housed in a barn more than a hundred years old. It shows agricultural machines and equipment, including for milk processing and flax processing, as well as everyday objects of rural life in the region from the past two hundred years. There are over 1000 exhibits in total.

Many items are still in working order and are demonstrated during tours. The guides explain how the equipment worked in the past and how agriculture became mechanized. The museum is open to the public on individual visiting days during the year; tours for groups are also offered from April to October.
