About the museum
The Automuseum in Lömmenschwil grew out of the Hürlimann family's passion for historic vehicles. For more than forty years the operators have been collecting and restoring classic cars. What began with automobiles expanded to include motorcycles, aircraft and racing boats. In 2021 the collection was opened to the public in Lömmenschwil as a museum; in 2022 it received the Swiss Classic Award in the Innovation category.
The exhibition shows vehicles from roughly a hundred years, from the American Saxon of 1913 and a Renault of 1922 to the NSU Ro 80 with its Wankel engine. One focus is motor racing: racing cars from several eras, such as a Citroën B2 from 1924, a Formula 3 car from 1948 or the CAT-Alfa of 1965, built in Switzerland, tell the story of competition and of Swiss drivers. In addition there are motorcycles, racing boats and technology from earlier times.
More than 5000 models, including Porsche, Saurer, English Matchbox models and trains in gauges 0, 1 and H0, document the history of mobility. The building has a bistro, a shop with accessories and model cars, and a workshop for classic cars in the basement. The museum is also available for guided tours, group visits and events.
