About the museum
The Museum Alpin is located in the middle of Pontresina in the Chesa Delnon, a stately Engadine house whose façade bears the year 1716; the foundations and parts of the furnishings are even older. It was founded in 1971 by the Pontresina mountain guides’ association. Today the association “Museum Alpin Pontresina” and the municipality jointly run it, and active and supporting members back the museum.
The exhibitions show the fauna, flora and geology of the Graubünden mountains as well as alpine culture. Particular emphases are summer and winter mountaineering, ranging from the pioneering days of climbing through the opening up of the high-alpine Bernina massif to modern alpinism. There is also an exhibition on the development of the SAC huts, multimedia shows on mountain experience, alpine flowers and butterflies, and the permanent exhibition “Kameramuseum-Pontresina collecziun Flury-Lochau”.
The library of the SAC Bernina section is also housed in the building. The museum includes the museum garden “Alpiner Garten POSETTA” with native plants and natural stone; the historic rooms can also be rented for events of up to 100 people.
